My head hummed the tune,
‘Happy Birthday’,
This one celebrated
With black balloons released
Into dark grey skies;
Helium to air,
Rubber to dirt;
Happy Birthday,
Just desserts.

Nothing sadder than the part balloons when the party is over and the room is abandoned. I photographed an empty street in Spain, once, post-wedding, with its lonely confetti and dropped balloons. Very sad.
reminds me of seeing a sports arena emptied after a big game!
Indeed, that is a very apt image: empty cinemas and theatres, too. There is such a huge difference between arriving early (expectation) and leaving late.
The “what’s left, what now?” feeling.
Nice piece.
